“OXI” Day Parade

—–

In 1940, humanity was experiencing the tragedy of World War II. Greece’s participation in the events began on October 28, 1940. Italy handed to the Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas an ultimatum that essentially called for the immediate surrender of the country to the Italian troops. Prime Minister Metaxas responded with the historic phrase: “Alors, c’est la guerre”. With the phrase “Well, this means war”, Metaxas had expressed the Greek popular sentiment, of refusal of submission. This brave “OXI” led the Italians to declare war on the Greeks that same day. The Greeks fought the Italians in the Albanian Mountains with extraordinary bravery. Their courage and determination led to a series of impressive and unexpected successes by the Greek army against the Axis Powers. German forces joined the Italians in April 1941 resulting in the Occupation of Greece. The Greeks suffered terribly under the German occupation. The Resistance fighters fought valiantly and delivered strategic and significant blows to the Axis Powers. Greece was finally liberated in October 1944. The Greek Nation was free but badly wounded. The anniversary of “OXI” is celebrated every October 28 with parades and events.

And we are once again very proud of our students and teachers for representing us in this years “OXI” parade.

Harry’s Day T-Shirts 👕

Our friendly #MedHighCharityClub has begun taking orders for Harry’s Day t-shirts at the front of the school gate each morning! Orders can also be made at the Pre-School.

All money made will be donated to Little Heroes (Μικροί Ήρωες), a charity supporting the families of children with leukemia and other cancers especially when the only treatment option is to be sent abroad- a devastating scenario for any parent.

Children will be able to wear their t-shirts on Harry’s Day (Friday November 15th), a special day of remembrance not only for our dear student Harry, but also other members of the Med High family who we sadly lost much too soon.

Registration for the 7th Radisson Blu Larnaca Marathon, which will take place on the 17th November, can be made together with the t-shirt orders and we would like to thank Angys Shop for providing and partially sponsoring this year’s t-shirts!
